Zager Guitar Review

Product: Zager EZ-Play ZAD-50
Price Paid: $ 495

Features : 10
2011 Zager ZAD-50 Acoustic, Dreadnought, Spruce top, Mahogany body, abolone inlay rosettes. Included extra picks, Martin strings, and to my surprize a tuner.
Sound : 10
Sound is more than adequate relative to richness and fullness for a guitar in this price range!
Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Guitar was tuned and ready to play right out of the box. Although I am not an expert by any means, I could not see any flaws with regards to finish and workmanship. The little extra on string spacing and lowering, does make the playing more comfortable and helps us that are experiencing stiffening of fingers as we mature! A great looking guitar.
Reliability/Durability : 10
Not being a professional guitarist I am not involve with doing gigs, unless one considers family, friends, and grandkids as such. However I have had the guitar for several days, and during that time I see nothing in the workmanship that would suggest anything less than a full and long life for this ZAD-50.
Customer Support : 10
Have not owned the guitar long and have had no problems requiring repairs. The warranty is advertised as lifetime and as I have visited the ZAGER website many times over the past 4-5 years, I have had an opportunity to read many reviews of previous customers. I took several years in deciding to purchase the guitar and even passed on opportunities which would have allowed me to buy it when there were special prices being offered. Based upon the dozens of reviews over the years I read and my personal experience of getting quick responses relative to questions I have had, I am very pleased with customer support.
Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing guitars off and on for 30-35 years. During those years I have owned several including Country Gentleman, several Ovations including the hollow-body electric Model 1617 which I have owned over 25 years and still play today. I believe that I have purchased one of the last of the Zager EZ-PLay ZAD-50's, but if they were available I probably would get another if something happened to the one I have. It is perfect size and light weight to put in car and take to family get togethers. The only thing that would have made me happier would have been if when opening the case a strap would have been included. That probably is not much to complain about. Zager Guitars

How did you hear about this brand?
I was researching Tone Woods as i was having a custom guitar built by a dear friend and Master guitar builder and was shopping for the woods i wanted used. some how my research led me to Zager guitars. After reading the entire site I really wanted to see if all the hype was true and with the Iron clad guarantee that was offered it seemed a no brainer to at least try. besides i grew up in Nebraska and us Corn Huskers trust each other.

How does this guitar compare with your old guitar, other guitars, or guitars you've tried in stores?

I was playing a Michael Kelly Rose cut away that was custom setup by my luthier friend and has incredible action and tone quality. I would put this guitar up against any for playability and tone. truly a very nice instrument. I have played many guitars in all price ranges and my Kelly Rose held its own against all of them but a few. When my ZAD 80 arrived i was giddy as a child at Christmas. Absolutely Beautiful guitar. incredible workmanship and the finest playing guitar i ever had in my hands. Tones rich and full, perfect highs, Bass that you can feel. Great Volume with out over strumming and action so light i couldn't believe it. I played twice as long as I normally do with no discomfort so in comparison... there is none blows the Michael Kelly out of the water. My friends $5,000. Taylor compares in tonal quality but when it comes to action and ease of play it does not compare either.... enough said?
What's your favorite part about this guitar?
Playability and tonal quality unsurpassed.
If you didn't know the price of this guitar what would you estimate the price to be?
$2000. plus
How would you rate customer support?
Personal and effortless 10 out of 10
Would you recommend this guitar to othersif so why?
I do I will and will continue too. best value in guitars bar none = Zager Guitar

I bought a Zager ZAD-50 Acoustic guitar in August of 2010. I waited over a year to post a review so I could play the guitar for awhile and see how it changed if at all over time. The guitar is a full sized dreadnought, mahogony back and sides, rosewood fretboard and bridge in glossy black.
Sound : 10
With the Martin extra light strings that are included (along with an extra set), the guitar gives off a rich warm tone that reverberates throughout the room
Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action on this guitar is set extremely low but does not contain any fret buzz. The chords are easy to play. My old guitar was warped on the top and the action became too high. In contrast, playing this one was a dream
Reliability/Durability : 10
I have been playing guitar on and off for over 45 years, but am entirely self taught, so I really don't know as much as I should. What I do know is that I have owned several guitars over that time and have played others belonging to friends and relatives. One of the guitars I owned was one that was sold to me by a friend of mine who was a professional musician who worked closely with Kris Kristopherson, Chet Atkins and Andres Segovia. The Zager guitar I bought sounds as good if not better than that one and plays a whole lot easier.
Customer Support : 10
On several occasions I have contacted Dennis Zager Jr. for additional information. He always responds within a few hours with a personal greeting. This guitar is warrantied with 100% money back so you can't do much better than that. This is a family business and they treat their customers as if they were family.
Overall Rating : 10
Zager guitar is a Martin that has been modified by Denny Zager for EZ play capability. Just having a Martin is worth it, but with the modifications accompanying this guitar I can't say enough about the quality and care put into by the Zager family to see that their customers get a top notch guitar for a very reasonable price. I would not hesitate to deal with this family again if and when the time comes.

Zager guitar has excellent features. It has a gorgeous finish, and is an extremely attractive looking Dreadnought. Built in eq and tuner really great. It has a solid spruce top and really sounds beautiful, both acoustically, and through an amp. The ez play modifications really make playing comfortable, and easier on the fingers.

Sound : 10
Zager guitar sounds great. It sounds as rich and clear as any high priced guitar I have heard, at a much lower price. I play it mostly as an acoustic, but it sounds just as good through an amp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar came ready to go. I can see no flaws, and it looks stunning. It is jet black with a brilliant shine. It's craftsmanship is of high quality.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I believe Zager guitar to be very dependable. I have only had it a short time, but it looks and feels solid.

Customer Support : 10
I was truly impressed with Zager. Dennis Zager answered my questions via e-mail within 20 minutes. He answered them thoroughly, and left me with no doubt that he really cared about his quitars, and the people that use them. He is available to be reached on the phone as well, though he was able to help me through just e-mail.

Overall Rating : 10
Love the guitar. I played many years ago, and only recently picked it back up. The ez play adjustments intrigued me (strings a little further apart, and low to the fret board), and it really helps. I have been playing at least an hour a day, and have not gotten any caluses on my fingers, and it plays and sounds like a dream. No regrets whatsoever.I did not think I would be able to find a guitar of this quality at the $595.00 price.
